Requirements
EMS is a demanding job. Mentally, physically, and emotionally.
A successful candidate will be:
- At least 18 years of age
- Able to life 250 pounds with assistance or 125 pounds without assistance
- Complete an EMT class
Learn about the levels of EMS providers
Take a Class
First you want to get affiliated with an agency. The state of New York or your employer will cover the cost of the class.

Find a Job
Once you have your EMT certification you next need to find a job.
The common first jobs are with companies such as Mohawk Ambulance or Ambulnz. As an new EMT you can also find a job with Albany County Sheriff’s EMS.
Volunteer
If you are like me and have a good day job and are just looking to give back to the community – consider volunteering. This is especially true if you are not in the Tri-Cities or suburbs.
