Hi! I am Chris, the Capital Region EMT by night and a work-from-home insurance adjuster by day.
I volunteer with a local EMS service. I fell into EMS because during the pandemic I was made fully virtual and was looking for something to do to get out into the community. My Pastor was the Chaplain at my service and suggested that I give it a try. After taking the class in Guilderland I was hooked and love helping people.
But EMS isn’t everything for me. Workwise I love what I do as an auto claims adjuster. It also is great…if I want to talk to you I just say I work in EMS and, amazingly, people think…that is so cool… or if I don’t want to talk to you I can just say I work in insurance. Yeah, no one ever asks a followup to that.
When I was in class I had someone who was proctoring me ask me if I was doing this for pay or for fun. Kinda weird to say it is for fun. But I have always viewed fun as something different. I moved to New York in 2015 and had no intentions on staying…but I love it hear. Prior to coming to New York I was quite involved in Amateur Radio with the Fox River Radio League and doing disaster response with the Lutheran Emergency Response Team. I haven’t been very active on the radio since moving to New York…mainly on account of losing everything in a total loss fire. I’d like to get back into it…and I bought a Radioddity GS-5B Analog Radio and one day I’ll get back on the air.
Things I used to do…I used to ride a bike a lot. My girlfriends always said I had thunder thighs…when I had time I rode 200-300 miles a week March to September. I was stick thin. Now I have a bicycle sitting in my family room which I haven’t ridden since I’ve been in New York. I don’t know…I probably should pick it up.
I take photos. I have a digital mirrorless camera…a Sony to be precise. I love taking photos and I love history. I have a website for my photos…which I haven’t updated in forever…but a website nonetheless.
